Cathy: After making this pie, which is really more like a cake, I thought about changing the name of our challenge to 2 Sisters 50 pounds. Really.
This IS an amazing dessert that is made in four layers – a chocolate wafer cookie crumb crust, then a brownie layer, then a chocolate pudding layer, then, of course, whipped cream. It’s very rich and gooey and delicious.
Mississippi Mud pie comes from this dense cake/pie which “looks like the banks of the Mississippi River”. It is believed that this dish was made by home cooks after World War II as it was made of simple ingredients that could be found at any supermarket and did not need special cooking tools.
It takes a few hours to chill in between layers so be sure to set aside a whole day to add each layer and then chill or set in the refrigerator.
